Meta is removing end-to-end encryption from Instagram messages, and others will follow. Governments are already pressing in the same direction, with the EU’s ongoing “Chat Control” efforts and similar initiatives seeking ways to scan, monitor, or limit truly private communication across platforms.
Most will scroll past these developments without grasping what they are witnessing. But mark it well: the moment a private conversation becomes a potentially observed conversation, the nature of human connection changes. People do not need to be actively punished for their words. They only need to know they might be read by algorithms, moderators, corporations, or future analytical systems, and people will become cautious.
Over time, you will watch these platforms transform. Everything becomes more scripted, raw opinion and genuine curiosity being replaced by performative agreement and calculated neutrality. The information flowing between people shifts from living truth to fakery, because self-censorship will be rewarded, and unguarded expression punished.
This is not censorship by decree. This is an elegant and permanent rewriting of what millions of minds consider safe to think and say. The system does not need to silence every voice as they only need to change how will people choose to speak.
